Greyson is a willing learner with a great work ethic who likes to take time to process new information and is learning pressure and release and gaining strength. Greyson remembers what was worked on in the previous session, and we are pleased with his steady progress. Greyson has experience lunging at the walk, trot, and canter with and without side reins, has been ridden in the indoor arena at the walk, trot, and canter, and jumped over small jumps on the lunge line without a rider. He is easy to slow down, steer, and bend, is currently working on driving from behind, goes comfortably on a loose rein and is making great progress as he is slowly introduced to contact using the bit to develop a more working frame with asking him to position his head, neck, and body more effectively. Greyson sold for $35K at auction as a yearling. His racing career included 13 starts, a race record of 2-0-1 and earnings of $131,334. He was retired with a soft tissue injury in his left foreleg after his last workout in July 2024. This sweet and talented boy is ready to excel in a new career!
Any medical records and pertinent history are available to interested and approved adopters. CANTER Michigan always recommends a PPE.
While our OTTBs receive some post-race training, all are offered as green prospects and will require an adopter who has experience with retraining off-track Thoroughbreds and/or will be working under the guidance of an experienced professional trainer.
Adoption Information
Potential adopters must complete an adoption application and be approved by CANTER Michigan prior to viewing and/or adopting a horse. Please visit our website to review our adoption process and complete an application https://canterusa.org/michigan/#resources.
Suitability and Training
On a scale of 1 to 5 with 1 being Calm and 5 being Spirited,Greys the Boy is a 3.00
More about temperament:
Greyson currently lives outside 24/7 in a herd of geldings and is comfortable with neighboring pastures of geldings. He is at the bottom of the herd and is respectful of his herd members in all situations. He is accustomed to electric fence lines and will do best with that living arrangement to ensure he remains respectful. Greyson is comfortable with multiple handlers and is easy to catch, friendly in the field and leads in and out of the field. He respects a handler who will remind him to be polite and is easily corrected if need be. He likes to assess smaller spaces such as stalls when being led but is good in the stall, will wait quietly and enjoys having company in the barn. He is good in crossties, enjoys grooming, slow and patient tacking, and is well-behaved for the vet and farrier. Greyson has worn front shoes in the past but is currently doing well barefoot. He has a great appetite and is currently on a free choice feeding program of second cutting alfalfa/grass hay mix, a concentrate and fat supplement to support his weight. Depending on his future climate he may need to be blanketed.

Additional information about our rehoming policies and practices:
Every potential Adopter must complete a CANTER Michigan Adoption Approval Form that includes information on riding skills, horse care experience, use of trainer, details on the location where the horse will be boarded, vet, farrier references and stabling, trainer, and personal references if applicable. Approved adopters may visit the training facility for CANTER thoroughbreds that are available for adoption, meet with the trainer who assesses the adopter's horse knowledge and riding skills, and if comfortable, will monitor the adopter riding the horse to ensure a good match between horse and adopter. The adopter pays an adoption fee and signs a CANTER Michigan Conditional Lifetime Adoption Agreement to adopt the horse which prohibits the horse from racing or being sold at auction and gives CANTER Michigan first right of refusal if the adopter needs to re-home the horse in the future.

Our Mission/How we are involved with horses: CANTER Michigan's program helps Thoroughbred ex-racehorses to heal from injuries, receive retraining so they can excel in new careers and marketing to find the perfect CANTER-approved home. CANTER Michigan accepts non-competitive and injured thoroughbreds off racetracks in Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana. Most are young at 3 - 5 years old. CANTER Michigan transports them off racetracks into Michigan State University for surgery to repair racetrack injuries, or to CANTER-approved rehab or training facilities for veterinary evaluation, treatment and farrier care. Rehabilitation time helps them adjust to farm life and living in a herd. Retraining begins for new careers and marketing results in adoptions by CANTER-approved adopters in non-race homes.
CANTER provides lifesaving surgery to remove bone chips or repair leg fractures at Michigan State University, while providing an advanced education to MSU Vet students who assist with all aspects of arthroscopic surgery.
CANTER horses heal with several months rehab. A vet assessment determines when they can end rehab and begin retraining for new careers.
